Did you know that the city of Dublin in Ireland has its roots in Viking history? In 852, Olav Kvite led a fleet of Viking ships to build a fortified fortress at what is now Dublin. The Vikings called it Dyflin', meaning "black pool", which later became Dubh Linn in Irish. Today, we know it as the marvellous city of Dublin. As a Norwegian, I have visited Dublin several times and experienced excellent service. I was even told by a Professor in Dublin that children with a Norwegian father and an Irish mother genetically had an ideal future within them. Whilst I cannot confirm this, it is interesting to learn about the Viking influence on Ireland. If you're a reader of this can add or correct me, please feel free to do that.
