Miss Trenton had been working far too many late nights, her mind clouded by exhaustion. As she stood on the dimly lit platform, waiting for the last train home, her senses began to betray her.
She saw the train approaching in the distance, its headlight piercing the darkness. But as it drew nearer, something felt off. The train seemed to be moving far too quickly, the rumble of the tracks growing deafening. Miss Trenton's heart raced as she realised, to her horror, that she was standing directly on the tracks.
Frozen with fear, she tried to move, but her legs refused to obey. The train barrelled towards her, its whistle letting out a haunting scream. Just as she was certain she would be crushed, Miss Trenton blinked - and the train had vanished.
Shaking, she looked around and saw that she remained safely on the platform. It had all been a terrifying illusion, a trick of her exhausted mind. From that night on, Miss Trenton vowed to never work such gruelling overtime again. For the phantom train would forever haunt her dreams.
